Stata and SAS Training Offered This Month

This month we are offering classes in Stata and SAS. Later this summer we will also offer R and SPSS courses.  Additionally, DoIT will be offering courses in NVivo and Matlab for currently registered undergrad and graduate students.  Visit our training page for details and to register. You may want to check the schedule again later because we are still finalizing dates for the SPSS and R workshops.

New Antivirus Software being Rolled Out Beginning Wednesday

Beginning Wednesday we will be rolling out new antivirus software called Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 (FEP) to PCs in the Social Sciences building that log into the PRIMO domain. FEP offers the following advantages over our current antivirus protection software, Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP):

  • More frequent updates means it is better at picking up malware.
  • It uses up to only 50% of the available CPU for scans. (SEP can use 100%, which slows down other programs.)
  • You can change the time of day you want your PC scanned. It is currently set for 8:00 p.m. on Mondays.

The home version of FEP is called MS Security Essentials and can be downloaded for free.

Tip: Having Problems Logging In? Did You Renew Your Account?

If you can no longer log in, you should first ask yourself whether or not you remembered to renew your SSCC account. SSCC accounts that were not renewed were disabled yesterday. To re-activate your SSCC member account, first renew your account and then contact our helpdesk and someone will reactivate your account.
