One of the hardest questions to answer about a piece of code is also one of the simplest: "Is this right?" Whether your code was written by yourself, a collaborator, or AI, you need to be able to confidently say "Yes, this is right" about the code that implements your research.
This workshop will teach you some simple techniques for testing data wrangling code, implemented in Stata. This includes:
- Spot checking (and knowing what to spot check)
- Tracking summary statistics
- Creating test datasets
Researchers who use AI (specifically, LLMs) to write code can often produce more code in less time. However, that means each bit of code receives less of their time and attention, and that makes errors more likely. This workshop is not about AI. But consider the skills it teaches a prerequisite for using AI to write code.
